Charcuterie Board Care Guide
Your engraved charcuterie board is both functional and decorative, and with proper care it can last for years while keeping its engraving sharp and beautiful.
Washing
- Hand wash only – never place in the dishwasher.
- Use mild dish soap and warm water.
- Gently wipe the surface with a soft sponge or cloth.
- Avoid soaking or submerging the board in water, as this can cause warping or cracking.
Drying
- Pat dry immediately with a clean towel after washing.
- Stand the board upright or prop it on its side to air-dry completely before storing to prevent moisture buildup.
Oiling & Conditioning
- Every 3–4 weeks (or when the board looks dry), apply food-safe mineral oil or a board cream (mineral oil mixed with beeswax).
- Pour a small amount of oil onto the board and rub it in with a soft cloth, covering both sides and edges.
- Let the oil absorb for a few hours or overnight, then wipe off any excess.
- Oiling helps protect the wood, enhance the engraving’s contrast, and prevent cracking.
Storage
- Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
- Avoid stacking heavy items on top of the board, as this could cause it to warp.
Extra Tips
- Do not cut heavily on the engraved area to preserve the detail.
- If odors develop (from cheese, garlic, etc.), sprinkle with coarse salt or baking soda, rub with half a lemon, and rinse lightly.
- Never use bleach or harsh chemicals—they can damage the wood and engraving.
